Guided walks with Cotswold Wardens near Stroud, from March, 2025

There are a number of warden-led walks coming up within easy reach of these towns. There is no need to book and there is no charge for joining the walks, ‘though there is a box for a voluntary contribution towards materials for our work on footpath maintenance. Walks start usually at 10.00 am. & will return to the starting point. A packed lunch is advisable. Sadly, no dogs allowed. ‘Third Thursday Walk’ – Hills and Hillforts

Difficulty: Moderate Duration: 2.0 hours Distance: 5.0 miles

Start point: Vestry café, South Street, Uley GL11. Please park considerately nearby.

 

Monday, 7th April, 2025 – Start: 10:00 am Cherington

Cherington Nags

Difficulty: Easy Duration: 2.5 hours Distance: 4.5 miles

Start point: Lane from A433 to Cherington.  sat. nav GL8 8SJ.

Please park on the lane sides verges between Cherington Grove and Yew Tree Plantation.

We follow an ancient Roman road between Cirencester and Chavenage Green, and pass into Cherington Park. We discover a Renaissance boar in a field, the fine medieval church of St. Nicholas, and beautiful Cherington Lake. We return via Nag’s Head, with its touching WWI memorial.

‘Third Thursday Walk’ – Stinchcombe Hill and the Legacy of Sir Stanley Tubbs

Difficulty: Easy Duration: 2.0 hours Distance: 5.0 miles

Start point:”Leaf & Ground” Café, Dursley.  GL11 6PP

Every month, South District Cotswold Wardens offer a two-hour walk on the third Thursday starting at 10.30am from a café or pub, where there is an optional opportunity for refreshment at the end of the walk. Come and enjoy the glorious Cotswolds National Landscape with us every month!

 

Wednesday, 23rd April, 2025 – Start: 10:00 am

Difficulty: Moderate Duration: 2.5 hours Distance: 5 miles

Start point: National Trust Cripplegate car park, Shortwood.

From Cripplegate car park the walk follows the Cotswold way along the ridge to Bunkers Bank with views over the Severn Estuary. From Haresfield Beacon the walk descends to Standish and then rejoins the Cotswold way near Randwick.
